Vacation
Jonathan Trevisan
to Kate Hughes

Kate,

I just wanted to let you know that I am going to be out of the office all week starting on the 15th. I believe that I have already switched some of my meetings around but if you see something that I missed, I would appreciate it if you would schedule them for a later date. I’ll be taking my laptop and, obviously, I’ll have my phone so if anything urgent comes up, let me know. I’m more than happy to take care of something while I’m gone, although it might not get done right away. If something comes up that is absolutely urgent, email me and say URGENT in big capital letters because, we both know how I am, I’ll put it off as long as I can.

Also, you should know that once I come back, it’ll probably be my last vacation for a while. I know I’ve been in and out of the office a lot and I know you take a lot of heat for me being gone when people are trying to find me so I wanted to say thank you. You don’t deserve to constantly take the heat for me and you do and you never complain. Even when I’m singing in my office. I know you can hear me. And you never say anything horrible.

This is what I need you to do for me: when Adam comes into the office on Monday morning, he probably won’t be looking for me. When he finally comes looking for me, tell him where I am (I’m in Italy, don’t think I mentioned that). If I tell him before I leave I likely won’t go and there are some important things I want to do on this trip. And I can’t tell him or you what those things are BUT just know that I’m trying to better myself. Not only for myself but for the good of the company. And when you do tell Adam, make sure you get out of there fast. Run, if you can. He won’t be very happy with me and I don’t want you to have to see that. I’m sure you have in the past. So I apologize for that too.

ALSO: I put some work on your desk for filing for the week. It’s probably not enough to keep you busy the entire time I’m gone so you can go ahead and take a couple hours off in the afternoon so you can enjoy some time to yourself too. As long as emails and phone calls are being answered, I don’t really care if you leave a little early. It’ll be our little secret.

I came into the office today so I set up my out of office, as well as call forwarding to your phone. See, I can be a little bit responsible. Baby steps, you know. Thank you again, Kate. You’re a great assistant and I very rarely take the time to appreciate anyone the way that I should. I’m working on it.

See you next week!

Jon
